In the early years of the church, the first big hurdle was convincing people to believe the central truth that Jesus was raised from the dead. It sounded crazy to many. Fortunately, there were more than 500 witnesses who saw the resurrected Christ before He ascended into heaven! That was the easy one.

The next big hurdle was the promise of Jesus to return. In the time that Pete was writing, thirty years later, people were beginning to wonder if this would ever really happen. What would that be like anyway? The Resurrection was well attested, but what do we do with this idea of the coming Day of the Lord?
