1 John 2
[12] I write to you, dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name. [13] I write to you, fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, dear children, because you have known the Father. [14] I write to you, fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

Do you ever have doubts? You know, the "maybe I am not saved," "maybe I am not good enough," or "I am such a lousy Christian" type doubts? If so, you are not alone. It is one of the Enemy's favorite ploys.
Even when God has been powerfully at work in your life, you can fall into insecurity. Remember how Elijah defeated 400 false prophets but hid under a broom tree, wishing he could die (1 Kings 19)? That is why it is so important to affirm who we are... in Jesus.
John writes to clarify briefly just who you are... IN JESUS. In case you have forgotten, John writes almost poetically, even with some repetition, but here is the core of it: In Jesus, you are forgiven; you are known by the God of the universe and know Him; you are an overcomer; you are strong; and you are a vessel of God's Word alive in you.
Our insecurity comes when, even after God's victories, we begin to think of ourselves in our own strength. On our own, we know no forgiveness and are incapable of forgiveness; we cannot know God, we cannot overcome, we are weak, and we have no Word alive in us. No wonder we start to feel puny!
So today, we stand in JESUS! In Jesus, you are forgiven... not because of anything you have or have not done, but because of the mercy of His name.
In Jesus, you are fully known by God and can know Him. He knows all about you, and He still loves you!
In Jesus, today you are an overcomer; there is nothing that God cannot handle in your day or in your week. Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.
In Jesus, you are STRONG and can do all things through Christ Jesus, who strengthens you.
In Jesus, the Word of God, Jesus Himself lives in you, and His Word is alive in You.
Wow! It is going to be a great day... in Jesus.

Lord, I affirm who I am in You, the giver of all life, hope, and strength. Without You, I am nothing, but with You, I am forgiven, known by You, an overcomer, strong, and a vessel of Your Word. Thank You, Jesus. Amen.
