Romans 3

[21] But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. [22] This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, [23] for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, [24] and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. [25] God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished-- [26] he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.

         Here is the Good News!
The righteousness that has been sought in the Law but could never be obtained is now revealed!  It is a righteousness that does not come from the Law or from human endeavor to keep the Law, but from God alone.  It is a righteousness that is received rather than earned.  It is received through faith or complete trust in Jesus Christ.
There is no difference between Jew and Gentile because, as Paul has pointed out for two and a half chapters:  All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God whether they have the Law or not.  What is more, this is available to ALL.  All are freely justified by His grace by the redemption or purchase of Jesus Christ.  He is the sacrifice of atonement presented by God, not by human hands.  This atonement is received by faith in His blood to atone or "cover" our sins.
Why did God do this?  To demonstrate His justice regarding the sin of the past and the present!  God had allowed sin to go unpunished but now, justice has been done and all sin has been paid for and atoned.  He is the Just One who also justifies those who have faith (complete trust in Jesus Christ).
There is a call for a decision.  Do you trust in Law or in Jesus?  You might say "neither," but truly, it is one or the other.  If we fail to trust in the work of Jesus, we are trusting in "self" or our ability to justify ourselves to the God of the universe.  Such an endeavor is folly.
The decision is simple yet weighty.  The ramifications are enormous.  Do you cast your whole weight upon the Law and your ability to do good by it or do you cast your whole weight upon the atoning work of God in Jesus?  Do you trust in the "god of self" or in the one true and living God who has made a way possible?

Lord, I trust in You.  I cast my whole weight upon You and Your work.  I thank You for the Good News of righteousness that does not come from the Law but from You.  Give me the added grace to be able to share this Good News today. In Jesus' name.
