Devotion is a strange word in our time. We often say that we "do morning devotions." It is a peculiar phrase. It speaks of prayer and meditation at the beginning of the day. Toward what end? Probably to become more "devoted" to God. We will often speak at a funeral service about someone as a "devoted" husband or wife or "devoted" to their country. We want to be a "devoted" son or daughter, but what does all that really mean?
