        1 Peter 5

[10] And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. [11] To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.

We are near the end of Peter's letter.  Peter begins to wrap up his letter to Christians who go through hard times with a powerful word of blessing.  Don't miss this.  When there are attacks by the enemy and persecutions in the world, there is blessing.

The blessing includes some rich Greek words that promise four powerful things in Christ to those who suffer under persecution.  RESTORATION - He Himself will restore you‑‑ completely and thoroughly repair you and put all things in order.  DIRECTION‑‑ He will turn you resolutely in the right direction.  MAKE FIRM‑‑ He will give you vigor, strength and confirmation.  SETTLE‑‑ He will make you steadfast on a firm foundation.

Peter is not promising that the blessing is always in this life.  In the sovereign will of God, some will see this blessing only in the life to come.  But much of this blessing makes sense here in this life.  Direction, vigor, confirmation, firm foundations.  One of the remarkable things about times of suffering and persecution is how they refine a Christian.  What comes out of the fire of persecution is either a great eternal glory or a wonderful tool for God.

Have you been through a time of testing, trial, or persecution?  Look for the blessing.  Look for what Jesus is now trying to do in you.  Restoration‑‑ direction‑‑ vigor‑‑ strength.

O God of all grace, who called me to eternal glory in Christ, restore me, make me strong, firm, and steadfast. Give me direction and vigor.  To You be the power forever and ever. Amen.
