Exodus 14
[26] Then the Lord said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the sea so that the waters may flow back over the Egyptians and their chariots and horsemen." [27] Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at daybreak the sea went back to its place. The Egyptians were fleeing toward it, and the Lord swept them into the sea. [28] The water flowed back and covered the chariots and horsemen--the entire army of Pharaoh that had followed the Israelites into the sea. Not one of them survived.
[29] But the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left. [30] That day the Lord saved Israel from the hands of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the shore. [31] And when the Israelites saw the great power the Lord displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the Lord and put their trust in him and in Moses his servant.

The great miracle of Israel's deliverance comes in four movements.
First, the Lord led the Israelites into an impossible situation.
Second, He called them to move on.
Third, the Lord piled up the waters on either side and moved in behind them.
Finally, the Lord called Moses to stretch out his hand so that the waters would flow back over the Egyptian chariots and horsemen. This final movement was a devastating defeat that obliterated the world's most powerful army. There were no survivors. No prisoners.
The Israelites had witnessed a magnificent and total deliverance. They had walked on dry land and then watched as their enemies were drowned. This deliverance was not really the result of faith. They had actually cried out in fear. Instead, it was a deliverance that resulted in faith. "When the Israelites saw the great power the Lord displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the Lord and put their trust in him and in Moses his servant."
We actually stand in a similar place.
The Lord Jesus has chosen to redeem us. We did not earn or deserve this. It did not happen as a result of great faith. Despite our own brokenness, while we were still sinners, Jesus chose to die for us. Jesus heaped up the waters so that we might walk through. He also caused the waters to rush in and crush our enemy. He did all this even though we did not deserve it. As a result of hearing this Good News, we come to faith. By faith, we receive this gift.
These are not sweet Bible stories or clever ideas. This is the very nature of God, who seeks and saves the lost. All of these movements are critical. Have you trusted the truth that God sent His only Son to rescue you? Have you realized and confessed your utter need for deliverance and inability to save yourself? Have you trusted His work of deliverance? Have you rejoiced in the victory He has won? This is salvation.

Father God, I rejoice in the gift of deliverance You have wrought for me. I confess my utter inability to save myself, and I trust in Your work done for me. Keep me focused on what the gift of Your Son was all about. Keep me focused on the joy that comes with deliverance and the hope that comes in victory. In Jesus' name.
