Colossians 3

[1] Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. [2] Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. [3] For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. [4] When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

As believers, we are people of resurrection. We are raised with Christ.  How does that work?  Of course, we look forward to a physical resurrection at the return of Christ. But, spiritually, we are raised with Him in our salvation.

When a person believes and really surrenders his life to Christ, God forgives the person's sins and accepts them in Christ. God actually identifies the person with Christ in His death and resurrection. The wonder of this resurrection living is that God considers a believer as having died and risen with Christ. While a new believer was not bodily present when Christ died and rose, God considers the believer to have been there. God reckons, credits, and counts it so.  This is the power of resurrection.

So if we are indeed people of resurrection, we should set the affections of our hearts and the thoughts of our minds above, not on earthly things.  We are not to be muddled in worldly worries and concerns.  If our very being is resurrected, then our hearts and minds should be set upon resurrected things or heavenly things.

We died, and we are now hidden with Christ in God.  We are a seed planted for ultimate resurrection someday in Christ.  We are in union with Christ.  We are identified with Christ. Our faith in Christ has placed us in Christ. Therefore, whatever Christ experienced, we experienced.

When He arose from the dead, we rose with Him. His resurrection means that we have risen with Him, we have conquered death, we are raised to a new life, and our old life in this sinful world is over.  The world no longer has a claim upon us. We are raised to a newness of life.  We walk in newness of life, living a life that is dead to sin, but alive to God—alive to righteousness and holiness.

It is interesting that the word translated “hidden” means concealed or covered.  We are covered or protected in Christ until His coming when we will appear with Him in glory.

For Paul, this was the center of the faith—I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead (Phil. 3:10-11).

How is your resurrection walk?  Are you walking in the reality and power of the resurrection?  Are you setting the affections of your heart on things above?  Are you setting your mind on things above rather than earthly things?  Are you hidden in Christ?  Are you covered in Him?  Protected until His coming?

Father God, I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead.  I choose to set the affections of my heart on things above and the thoughts of my mind upon You.  In Jesus’ Name.
