Luke 8

[17] For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.

A second principle of revival is that what is hidden will be revealed. When God is at work in a community, a church, or in a life, the Light will do exactly what it is supposed to do. When the Light of Jesus begins to shine, those things that have been in the darkness will be revealed. This proclamation speaks both of the Kingdom now and of eternity when all things will be revealed. The Light that comes now and will shine in eternity reveals everything both good and evil.

When God is breaking in with His Light, many good things will be revealed. There is no secret that will be left secret in eternity. In heaven we will even know the tiniest anonymous gifts and the most silent of servants. Perhaps such identification will not matter in the brilliance of eternity with God but it will be exposed. Today, we may go to a great effort to conceal a gift given for the good reason that we not be puffed with human pride. But we must remember that we are not hiding anything from God. God knows exactly what He has entrusted to us and how responsible we are as stewards. Kind actions will be revealed. Unnoticed acts of courtesy will be known. Everything.

Bad things will also be revealed. There is no unconfessed dark secret that can be kept for eternity. If you have a secret sin, it will be made known. The Scripture is clear.   Psalm 44:21 declares that God knows the secrets of the heart... Romans 2:16 says that there will be a day when God will judge men's secrets through Jesus Christ...   1 Corinthians 14:25 say that the secrets of the heart will be laid bare. Luke 12:3 tells us that what we have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what we have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs.   Every evil, every sin, and every word of gossip will be revealed in the Light of Jesus.

Does that make you uncomfortable?   It does me!   Clearly there is no place to hide except under the shed blood of Jesus. The only covering is that provided by the Lord Himself. Hebrews 10:14-17 tells us that by one sacrifice He has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says: "This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds." Then he adds: "Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more."   This is a very good reason to keep short accounts with God. Confession and repentance are daily matters for us in Christ.

Perhaps most important is that Truth will be revealed. In the eternal Light of Jesus, matters of justice will be settled and clear. We will know the answer to all the famous unsolved mysteries. There will be no place for the heinous or the foolish to hide. We will know the injustices that took the lives of the thousands unnamed across this world. We will know who told what lies. We will know the truth about every injustice. There will be judgment. There will be justice. There will be mercy for those in Christ. We can be sure that there will be Truth.

The coming of the Kingdom is but a peek into this final settlement. Revival is a burst of God, a glimpse of His Light and His rule breaking into this time as we move toward a final judgment.   We cannot encounter God without dealing with His Light which shines into our lives and reveals everything.

Lord, I am stripped bare before You. There are no more places to hide. There are no more excuses. You see me through and through. Forgive me of my sin. Cleanse me from all unrighteousness. By faith I receive the covering of Your shed blood. Teach me to delight in Your truth and in your justice. In Jesus' name.
