Mark 14
Again the high priest asked him, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?"
[62] "I am," said Jesus. "And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven."
[63] The high priest tore his clothes. "Why do we need any more witnesses?" he asked. [64] "You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?"
They all condemned him as worthy of death. [65] Then some began to spit at him; they blindfolded him, struck him with their fists, and said, "Prophesy!" And the guards took him and beat him.

When asked directly, Jesus answered. "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?" Jesus answered with the form of speech indicating God's very name: I AM. No mistake about it. Jesus was claiming to be God. Jesus was God with us. He was God made flesh. It was a thought so abhorrent to the high priest that he tore his clothes. It is a thought so beautiful today that we cannot imagine life without it.
Jesus had finally confessed the "secret" that had been guarded during His ministry. So many times when Jesus healed people, they knew exactly what the meaning was-- God is with us! But because Jesus needed to pace the timing of His ministry and Passion, He urged people not to expose this "secret," saying, "Don't tell anyone." In most cases, however, the news was so good that it could hardly be contained.
The sad thing is that today, we have no restrictions on telling, yet we are timid. We have no "secret" to keep and no timing to protect. Yet, we are often silent when opportunities arise to tell the Good News that God came down in the person of Jesus, died for our sins, and set us free. We live in the most free society the world has ever known. Yet, you would think that we were facing terrible persecution if we professed faith in Jesus. You would think we were the ones directed to keep the messianic secret.
Well, let us remember the times in which we live. There are no secrets. Instead, there is a commission from Jesus Himself that we are to make disciples of all nations. No secrets. Make today a Good News day for Jesus. Let the "secret" slip as much as you can today. Watch for God's opportunities to share that Jesus makes a difference.

Lord Jesus, I am sorry if I have been keeping you a secret. Show me the time and place, and I will speak up for you today. In Jesus' name, Amen.
