Romans 11
[33] Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! [34] "Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?" [35] "Who has ever given to God, that God should repay him?" [36] For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.

How do we respond to the remarkable mystery of God's sovereign work among the Jewish and Gentile people? For that matter, how do respond to any of the mysteries of God-- the difficult questions of life that are met with perfect justice, endless love and unfathomable grace?
We could express frustration, puzzlement, or even despair at not knowing or grasping the answers. Paul chooses something else-- doxology. Doxology is a burst of praise that comes when we encounter a glimpse of how big and wondrous God is and how small, yet loved, we are. It is a powerful place for us to dwell a while on days when our questions of faith seem difficult or unanswered.
It is not surprising that the issue of Jews and Gentiles, Paul's life work and struggle, would drive him somewhere-- either insane or into the arms of God! What we hear is what comes from a person in the arms of God. What pours out of Paul's soul is so powerful it needs no commentary, for this IS the commentary of a heart that has truly encountered God. We find here two grand proclamations, two piercing questions, a statement of sovereign witness and a final burst of praise-- each word a gem strung together by the Spirit into a magnificent song of witness and praise. Savor with your heart and soul...
