Give Us A King
February 11, 2018 Pastor: Dr. Jeffrey D. Hoy Series: Give Us A King
Verse: 1 Samuel 8:1–22
We have a rather odd relationship with the idea of “a king.” While Americans cherish freedom and democracy, we also tend to be enamored with the idea of “Royalty.” This very thing was true in ancient Israel. Even after having been brought out of slavery in Egypt and delivered into a Promised Land, the Israelites became intrigued with the idea of having a king. Somehow, having God as their Sovereign was not enough. It is true that something inside of us longs for a king. But no human king can fill that need. Everything in the history of God’s people pointed toward the coming of a king. But not just any ordinary human king. A King of kings and Lord of lords.
Join us as we begin a brand new study based in the book of 1 Samuel called “Give us a King.” We will discover the One who does much more than tickle our royal fancy.
