When we encounter God, one of our first questions is whether God is really for us... or maybe against us. It makes sense to ask. After all, we know that if God if for us, who can be against us?
So when Joshua encountered a mysterious warrior on the eve of their attack upon Jericho, it makes sense that he would ask: Are you for us? Or are you for our enemies?
