2 Corinthians 5
[20] We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God.

An ambassadorship is a grand thing in the diplomatic world. Representing one's nation in another country is a great honor and a highly sought-after assignment. The job involves travel and diplomacy as well as taking up residence in a foreign land to establish an embassy. An ambassador sometimes speaks on behalf of their nation in situations that are difficult, tense, or even fractured. Such diplomacy is aimed at building a peaceful relationship and finding reconciliation between nations. This was Paul's life mission.

Few verses so precisely summarize Paul's ministry and message. Once converted to the way of Christ, Paul became Christ's Ambassador to the world, a foreign land to which he traveled. He was a "foreign minister" who belonged entirely to another Kingdom but represented His King in this world.

Paul became the immediate representative of God's message of reconciliation. He was not a "saint" or icon or pope, but he was the foreign minister that God chose to use in a ministry that is shared by all who are "in Christ". God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, is reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. He has committed to us this message of reconciliation.

All believers are called to serve Christ as His ambassadors. We are all appointed to represent our nation— the Kingdom of God. We are all named to this foreign ministry as we travel and establish embassies for Him.

This appeal was not a perfunctory pronouncement or an honorary declaration but an impassioned plea. Paul passionately tried to persuade men to be reconciled to God. He worked in God's diplomacy with all of his strength and resources. As Paul encouraged Timothy— "This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth" (1 Tim. 2:3-4).

So, how is your Ambassadorship going? This is not a worldly Ambassadorship with little perks, such as avoiding traffic tickets and gaining diplomatic immunity. This is far more important and much more is at stake.

Are you making yourself available to the foreign land where you have been assigned? Are you reporting back to the "State Department" to hear what progress Jesus is planning through you? Are you engaging in diplomacy with those who are estranged from the King? Are you presenting the diplomatic offer of God, the offer of reconciliation, not counting men's sins against them, so that those of this world might come to know Him?

Father God, I am ready for my life in Your State Department. I am honored by my appointment as Ambassador to my community and world. I am humbled. Help me as I seek to be a part of Your embassy here, the Body of Christ. Show me where Your Kingdom needs the work of diplomacy. Give me the words as I share the magnificent offer that You have made. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
