Romans 8
[31b] If God is for us, who can be against us?

Who can be against us? Well, there may be many adversaries, enemies, temptations, and Satan, not to mention ourselves. This list is not short. But Paul asks us to consider that if the God of the universe, who created everything we see and touch, every star put into place and every sea that washes the earth, if this God is at work for good in all things for those who love him and have been called according to his purpose, then who can possibly stand against Him?
The truth is that there is not an enemy anywhere that can stand against God. In fact, the very worst attack of an enemy can actually be turned for good. God turned every attack that came against Jesus into glory. God turned even the agony of death into redemption and then into resurrection victory. Satan can't touch us, and neither can his demons. We are secure for eternity because the enemies cannot stand against Him.
The truth is that our only significant enemy is our own stubborn willfulness. Our tendency to rebel is the only thing that can stand in the way of God's gracious efforts for good in our lives. It is not that God cannot overrule our will, but that He has chosen not to do so by creating us as moral beings. Our biggest enemy is the one that is overcome with the simple word: surrender.
When we surrender to God's synergy, He does not quit working on us. In fact, He is just getting started! God continues to work to conform us into the likeness of His Son. He justifies us, sanctifies us, and will glorify us. The synergy of God is at work all around us for our good to make us into what He originally designed us to be.
Do you sometimes feel like all the world is against you? It really does not matter, because God is for you.

Lord, I give thanks that You are for me. You are working toward my good in all things.  Help me to see that good. Give me the grace I need for daily surrender to Your will and Your way. In Jesus' name.
