John 14
[4] “You know the way to the place where I am going."
[5] Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?"
[6] Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. [7] If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him."

Jesus was leaving. This reality was just starting to sink in for the disciples. Jesus was comforting those closest to Him in a confusing time yet His next sentence was somewhat cryptic. “You know the way to the place where I am going.” Jesus did not ask a question, He made a statement. You know the way.
Of course the disciples did not think they knew the way. They felt confused. Lost. Like they were dying. Thomas piped up, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" Jesus’ response is one of the most profound in the entire Bible. "I am the way and the truth and the life.”
What does that mean?
“Do you need to know the way? If you know me you already know the Way. If you are lost, you already know the way. If you are confused, you know the way because I am the Way.”
“Do you need truth? If you know me you already know the Truth. You know truth because I am the Truth. I am Truth. There is nothing untrue in me. There is nothing tainted in me. I am true.”
“Do you need life? If you know me you already have life. I am Life. There is no death in me.”
Jesus the Way overwhelms the confusion of our lives. Jesus the Truth eclipses the lies the world. Jesus the Life defeats the enemy death.
But don’t be confused here. Jesus is not ‘a’ way among many. He is not ‘a’ truth to be compared or ‘a’ life to be considered. He is ‘the’ Way, Truth and Life. No one comes to the Father except through Jesus.
To some this may sound “intolerant” (a favorite word among those who do not believe in truth) or close-minded (a phrase used by those closed to the possibility of truth). But we should be clear that Jesus never claimed to be one way among many or one truth at the fair.
When we consider Jesus we must listen to what he said and what he did not say. In Jesus, we know the Father. If we know Jesus, we know the Father. Jesus is the Way to the Father. He is the Truth of the Father. He is Life in the Father.
People will often ask, “But what about this ‘truth’ or that? What about these people or those? All we can know is what Jesus revealed. His statement is not one of condemnation but of Truth and Life. We hear and trust the Way, Truth and Life and then offer what we have heard and know to others.
Are you lost? Jesus is the Way.
Are you confused? Jesus is the Truth.
Are you dying? Jesus is the Life.

Lord, I need to find my way. I need truth. I need life. I need You. Thank You Father for revealing Yourself in Jesus. Thank you Jesus for being my Way, Truth and Life. In Your name I pray.
