Luke 16

[10] "Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. [11] So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? [12] And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else's property, who will give you property of your own?

Jesus calls us to shrewdness but never to dishonesty. The end never justifies the means. Jesus made clear a Kingdom principle. "Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. God will entrust to you a little, see how you do, and then based on that, entrust to you more. This is a consistent teaching of Jesus.

Many people wonder why they are not entrusted with more material blessing from God. The question they must ask themselves is this, "Have I been faithful with a little?" We also might remember that "a little" is always relative. There are places in the world where all of us would be viewed as kings and queens because of our relative wealth on a world scale.   We look around and see people who have what we would call vast riches, who have not been faithful, and we wonder why they have so much blessing. For them the vast riches are a "little" thing and God is waiting to see if they are faithful and determine either to entrust more or to entrust something really significant!

Don't ever forget that the material blessing is the lesser blessing.   Bill Gates has been entrusted with a pittance of worldly wealth in the scheme of eternity. How he manages the pittance will determine whether or not Mr. Gates will be entrusted with truly significant wealth. "So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?"

What are true riches? You have true riches if you have been entrusted with any relationship, the care of family or a friend, a spouse or a child.   These are the true eternal riches of God, His most precious blessings. Or what if you are entrusted with teaching in the church? My goodness! Or, especially the teaching of children, then you have been entrusted with the most valuable eternal treasures of the Kingdom! The most trusted person in the church is the one with the children. The church treasurer is working his way up to where you are!

Do not forget material things. We are entrusted with that which is not our own. And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else's property, who will give you property of your own? If you cannot be trusted with that which is God's, for example to return a tithe, then why would God entrust to you anything more?

Lord, help me to see the things around me with Your eyes. Show me those things that are of eternal value. Help me to be faithful in the small things You entrust to me so that I may be found faithful with much. In Jesus' name.
