Romans 8
[5] Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. [6] The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; [7] the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. [8] Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.

There seems to be some debate these days about just what is sin and what is not.  Some seem to feel that God may have changed His standards to fit these modern days in which we live.  After all, can couples really be expected not to sleep together before marriage?  Isn't sexual orientation just a different expression of love that should be embraced? And doesn't God love us just the way we are?
Paul answers such ruminations clearly and decisively. The truth is that those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires, but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. We have a choice. As regards sin, there is always a choice. We choose where our minds will dwell.
If we feed and entice the sinful nature, as our culture so readily does, we will slowly begin to think that what is right is wrong and what is wrong is right. But does this change the reality of God? No. The mind of sinful man is death. Period. No matter how comfortable we may become with our sinful nature, it is death, pure and simple.
But the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace! If we want life, the choice is simple, surrender the mind to the Spirit of God. Is this easy? Of course not. The sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. Only by the power of Christ can we submit to Him.  But make no mistake about it-- Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.
Yes. God loves you just the way you are, but too much to leave you that way!

Lord, I choose to set my mind upon the desires of Your Spirit within me. Set me free from the sinful nature and from the law of sin and death. In Jesus' name.
