Genesis 24
[60] And they blessed Rebekah and said to her, "Our sister, may you increase to thousands upon thousands; may your offspring possess the gates of their enemies."  [61] Then Rebekah and her maids got ready and mounted their camels and went back with the man. So the servant took Rebekah and left. [62] Now Isaac had come from Beer Lahai Roi, for he was living in the Negev. [63] He went out to the field one evening to meditate, and as he looked up, he saw camels approaching. [64] Rebekah also looked up and saw Isaac. She got down from her camel [65] and asked the servant, "Who is that man in the field coming to meet us?"  "He is my master," the servant answered. So she took her veil and covered herself. [66] Then the servant told Isaac all he had done. [67] Isaac brought her into the tent of his mother Sarah, and he married Rebekah. So she became his wife, and he loved her; and Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.

Getting ready for a wedding can be quite a job! Rebekah left her family as they gave her a blessing. She began a journey of faith to meet her husband Isaac. Eliezer, the faithful servant of Abraham was Rebekah's guide and protector on the long journey, about 450 miles!
After many days, the caravan finally drew near to the place that would be her home. There Rebekah finally saw Isaac across a field. When Rebekah learned that Isaac was coming, she put on a veil. In many Middle Eastern cultures, the bridegroom did not see the bride at all until after they were married! Isaac took Rebekah to a very special place that he had prepared, the tent of his mother, Sarah. There he married her. She became his wife and he loved her.
What a dramatic moment of meeting! Isaac had been waiting such a long time. Rebekah had journeyed so very far. Isaac finally lifted the veil to gaze upon his beautiful bride, and he loved her.
The conclusion of our betrothal to the Lord Jesus will be similar in many ways. As we mentioned yesterday, the Lord Jesus has betrothed Himself to us as believers. The "bride price" has been negotiated and paid. The Cup of Betrothal has been offered to us and accepted if we are believers.
In Jewish tradition, the Bridegroom goes "to prepare a place" for his bride and then will come for her and take her to it. The Father of the groom determined when the dwelling was ready for the bride, and then the marriage feast began. The Lord Jesus has gone to prepare a place for us, and only the Father knows the day or the hour of his return for us.
It will be an incredible moment when the veil is lifted, and we gaze upon the Lord Jesus! It may be when we go home to Him through the passing shadow of death, or when He comes for His church. Either way, there will be no moment more magnificent than when we come to the end of our faith journey and see Jesus.
Are you ready to meet the Bridegroom? Christ loved the Church and gave Himself up for her to make her holy. He cleanses her by the washing with water through the Word to present her to Himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish but holy and blameless (Eph. 5:25b-27).
It is by the Spirit (water) and the Word that we are prepared to meet the Bridegroom! He is not coming back for a beat-up bride! We cannot prepare ourselves. We cannot "clean ourselves up."  We can only surrender to the cleansing of the Spirit and purification of the Word.

Lord Jesus, I give thanks that You are coming for me. Prepare me for that moment. Ready me for that day. Cleanse me by the washing of the Spirit and the Word. In Jesus' name.
