Exodus 25
[23] "Make a table of acacia wood--two cubits long, a cubit wide and a cubit and a half high. [24] Overlay it with pure gold and make a gold molding around it. [25] Also make around it a rim a handbreadth wide and put a gold molding on the rim. [26] Make four gold rings for the table and fasten them to the four corners, where the four legs are. [27] The rings are to be close to the rim to hold the poles used in carrying the table. [28] Make the poles of acacia wood, overlay them with gold and carry the table with them. [29] And make its plates and dishes of pure gold, as well as its pitchers and bowls for the pouring out of offerings. [30] Put the bread of the Presence on this table to be before me at all times.

Within the holy place, there was a special table. We know that the table existed because it is depicted on the arch of Titus among the items that the Romans took back to Rome in A.D. 70. We also have descriptions from the historian Josephus, overlaid with gold in a manner similar to the Ark.
The table was not large. It measured 1' 6" wide, 3' long, and 2' 3" high. It was also made from acacia wood, like the Ark, and covered with gold. It also had poles for when it was carried. There were pictures and bowls for the pouring out of offerings.
This table was not to set a meal before God as pagans would do. It did hold the "bread of the presence." This is sometimes called the "showbread" (KJV). The 12 loaves probably represented the 12 tribes of Israel. They served as a symbol of the fellowship and communion of God with his people. This was the purpose of the Tabernacle. This was also the purpose of Jesus coming to tabernacle (dwell) with humanity. The priests would eat the bread to demonstrate the spiritual fellowship that supports life with God.
We can also see the bread as a type or image of Christ. The table speaks of provision, sustenance, and supply.
We can see this as the table of salvation. We are invited to the table, an invitation we must accept. In the parable of the King's son's marriage (Matthew 22:1-14), Jesus told of the invitation that goes out, but the invited guests refused to come. The King then extended the invitation to all those who were in the highways and byways. They were invited to come and partake of the table. The invitation has gone out today to the world to come and partake of the salvation as it is in the Lord Jesus Christ.
We cannot help but think of the table of the Lord's Supper, instituted by the Lord Himself just prior to His death upon the Cross. It is a table for believers. It is where we accept the invitation. This is the table of showbread-- the presence of Christ among us as the sustainer of spiritual life for the believer.

Father God, I receive Your invitation to the table. I desire to partake of the bread of life that is Jesus. I desire to receive His presence and remember His power to sustain me as a believer. I give thanks for the gift of salvation. In Jesus' name.
