Hebrews 13
[7] Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.

Godly leaders are a gift. None are perfect, but those who impart the Word of God are a special gift. As we journey through life, we are privileged to observe those who live out the Word of God. The Writer says we should consider or look again attentively at the outcome of their way of life.

What is the outcome of a Christian life? Some died courageously for their faith, while others have enjoyed peace and prosperity. Some have lived many years in wonderful health, while others have died at a young age or suffered from disease. Perhaps the outcome is not so much on the outside as on the inside. What really counts is the faith that a man or woman has either in the good time or the trial. The key is not whether faith gets the "results" that the world defines as success. The key is in the life of faith itself.

Imitate their faith. When we are not sure what faith should look like, imitate the closest thing we can find. Look to the leader who imparts the Word and walks in faith. Imitate the faith you see there. Imitate the faith that trusts God even when things are bad. Imitate the faith that trusts God daily for food and provision. Imitate the faith that trusts God in the face of death. This is why leaders are so important.

Imitate the faith of Corey ten Boom, Joni Eareckson Tada, Fannie Crosby, and D.L. Moody. But also imitate the faith of the precious Sunday School teacher who invests so much, the pastor who quietly leads and comforts, the Christian businessman, the faithful professional, or the homemaker who shares Jesus every day.

Lord, give me an eye for what honors You. Help me to imitate You as I see Your qualities lived out in others. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
