Colossians 2

[9] For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, [10] and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority.

Somehow, sometimes, we can let ourselves get just a little too familiar with Jesus.   We start to think of Him as our buddy.  After all, He has called us friends rather than servants.  Okay.  But that doesn’t mean he is just another buddy among the rest.

So, it is good that Paul reminds us of just who Jesus is— For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority.

Jesus Christ is the Source of reality and truth.  There is no other.  He is the very presence of God Himself.  He is Reality and truth.  He is the answer to the world and life.  Reality is not found in human ideas or a philosophy. Truth is not found in an examination of the creation.  Truth and reality are found in a Person, the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Why is this important?  If a Person really created the world, then the answer to life and creation must be wrapped up in that Person, not in the world He made.  He is the Source to understanding the world.  The world is not the source to understanding Him. We do not look for knowledge of Him through nature. We look to understand nature after knowing Him.

Now we can certainly look at the world and learn some things about God, but not all that we need to know.  The world cannot tell us how to conquer death and evil.  If we seek the truth only in the world, we are left short and incomplete.  We are unfulfilled and in error.  We must seek truth and the answer to all things in the Person who made all things. He alone knows the whole story.

The glorious message of the Gospel is that God does exist. He truly exists, and He has revealed Himself in Christ. Christ is the revelation of God.  He is the revelation of truth and reality.  He shows us life in all its purpose, meaning, destiny, and origin.

So, Christ is the fullness of God. Christ is God Himself, who came to earth.  All that God is dwells in Christ.  And believers are complete in Christ. The Greek actually says, "In Him, you are full."  When a person truly believes and partakes of Christ, he receives the fullness of Christ.

Christ is also the Head of all principality and power.  There is no rule, authority or power stands between God and man. Nothing, absolutely nothing, stands between God and man.  He is our all in all.

Now.  He may also be your buddy.  But that isn’t all that He is.  So, don’t miss all He is.

Lord and Christ, I celebrate the fullness of the Deity that is revealed in You.  I rejoice in the fullness of life that I find in You.  In Jesus’ Name.
