Genesis 3
[21] The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.

What was the immediate response of the Lord God after pronouncing judgment upon Adam and Eve? He covered them. This was the first "work" that God had done since the conclusion of creation. He worked to put together a covering for Adam and Eve before sending them out from the Garden. The Lord God had by no means abandoned the humans. He was providing for them even as they went out.
But covering was not so simple. The Lord God had said, 'you will surely die' if you eat from the tree. Death is the penalty for sin, so the Lord God provided a substitution in the form of an animal. An animal had to be sacrificed to provide this covering. This was the first killing of any living thing, and it came as a result of Man's sin.
Later, Israel would be called and required to sacrifice animals as a partial covering. Such sacrifices were an incomplete remedy for the curse of sin-- a life for a life. Still, the Lord God was setting in place the pattern by which a complete covering for sin would be made. The final plan would be magnificent and costly.
The Apostle Paul declared: "...all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood..." (Romans 3:23-25).
God loved Adam and Eve enough to look into the eyes of one or more of His precious animals and sacrifice them as a covering for human sin. God loved you and me enough that He looked into the eyes of His one and only Son and sacrificed Him as a covering for our sin.
God is so good. Have you trusted in the goodness of God? Have you trusted in the work of God to cover your sin and redeem you from the curse that came with the Fall? Have you put "faith in His blood?"

Lord God, I am so thankful for Your goodness and provision. Thank You for covering my sin with the blood of Your Son, Jesus. I trust wholly in Your work for me. In Jesus' Name.
