Hebrews 13
[20] May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, [21] equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
A blessing is a powerful thing. In Judaism, the blessing of the father upon his children was as valuable as the material inheritance or more so. Pronouncing a blessing upon those you love and care for is empowering. When we say "God bless you", we are both praying God's blessing and releasing God's blessing upon a person.
The blessing of God pronounced by the Writer is profound.
WHO? May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep... May the God Who is able to complete every covenant perfectly, Who is able to bring back our Lord from the dead, Who is able to provide us with a great Shepherd of the sheep— may this God bless you.
HOW? By equipping you with everything you need to do His will. May you never be lacking for the wisdom, the knowledge, or the spiritual gifts necessary to do what He desires. May you never lack for the provision and opportunity to do what He wants done.
WHAT? May He work in us what is pleasing to Him, through Jesus Christ. Not that we would work for God or that we would work to please God. But that God may work IN us those things that are pleasing to Him.
HOW AGAIN? Through Jesus Christ. No other way. No other name.
WHY? To Him be glory for ever and ever. Amen. That everything may glorify and honor Him in all ways.
Lord, I receive the blessing of Your Word for me today. I give thanks for Your peace through our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd. I pray that I may be equipped with everything good for doing Your will and that You will work in me what is pleasing to You, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever, Amen.
