Hebrews 13
[8] Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
There are many people in the Bible I do not know. I don't know Peter or Paul. Moses or Elijah. I have just read about them. But I know Jesus. I know the same Jesus that the disciples knew.
I know the same Jesus who told His parents that He was about His Father's business. The same Jesus who came to John and was baptized. The same Jesus who called fishermen from their nets and a tax collector from his tax stand. The same Jesus who healed Peter's mother-in-law, a lame man, a man born blind, a leper, and a woman with a hemorrhage.
The same Jesus who calmed a raging sea. The same Jesus who drove demons out of a man and returned him to his family. The same Jesus who raised a little girl and a widow's son from the dead. The same Jesus who went up a mountain and was transfigured before the disciples' eyes. The same Jesus who cast everything unclean out of a woman from Magdala.
The same Jesus who chose to direct His path toward danger in Jerusalem. The same Jesus who entered the city in triumph. The same Jesus who turned over the tables in the Temple. The same Jesus who contended with the religious leaders. The same Jesus who ate a final meal with his friends and said He was going to prepare a place for us.
The same Jesus who was betrayed by a friend. The same Jesus who was in a dark cell. The same Jesus who was falsely tried, whipped, spat upon, beaten, and mocked. The same Jesus who walked carrying a cross. The same Jesus who ministered hope to a thief while He was on the cross. The same Jesus who prayed for those who hurt Him.
The same Jesus who took upon Himself the sin of the whole world. The same Jesus who died and was buried in a tomb. The same Jesus who arose from the dead and met Mary in the garden. The same Jesus who appeared to Peter and then to two disciples on the road. The same Jesus who made breakfast on the shore in Galilee. The same Jesus who appeared to over five hundred.
The same Jesus who ascended into heaven. The same Jesus who sits at the right hand of the Father to intercede on my behalf. The same Jesus who will return for His bride, the church. The same Jesus who will judge everything in the end.
He is my friend. I know Him. I am getting to know Him better and better every day. Do you know Him? He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Lord, I want to KNOW you. I want to know the power of Your resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in your sufferings, even to become like you in death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
