Hebrews 7
[1] This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him, [2] and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. First, his name means "king of righteousness"; then also, "king of Salem" means "king of peace." [3] Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, like the Son of God he remains a priest forever.
Okay, "royal watchers", turn your attention this way. Would you really like to know a king? Would you really like to rub elbows with the royals? No, not on the polo field or in a Palm Beach restaurant. Someone much more "royal" than you have ever seen in a tabloid. He keeps company with a king named Melchizedek.
You remember. Melchizedek, who appeared in Genesis 14:17 24? The Writer tells us he was connected to Jesus. In fact, some have suggested that Melchizedek was a "type" or "shadow" of Christ the King of Righteousness and King of Peace. Others even say that Melchizedek was a "theophany" or "appearance of God" like the mysterious fourth man who appeared in the fiery furnace with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (Daniel 3:25).
Mechizedek seems to come from nowhere and then disappears in the same way. He has no listed ancestry, and we find no record of descendants. We are left to wonder if this was not Christ Himself in a "pre incarnate" appearance for a particular purpose. Was this the Christ of God, appearing briefly before He entered human flesh through the lineage of David? Was this the King of kings and the Lord of lords? Now that is a real "royal sighting".
But the question for us is really quite simple: Do you know the King of Righteousness- the King of Peace? We no longer peer through the haze of the age of pre incarnation. We have the real thing, the joy of knowing the fullness of God Who came to live among us in Christ Jesus.
Do you know the Righteousness that He has accomplished and delivered to you? Do you know the cleansing that only He can provide? Do you know the Peace which surpasses all understanding and guards your heart and mind in Him? This is the royalty we need to rub elbows with each and every day.
Lord, let me rub elbows with You this day as I walk in Your righteousness and peace. In Jesus' name, Amen.
