John 5
[24] "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life. [25] I tell you the truth, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live. [26] For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son to have life in himself. [27] And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man.
[28] "Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice [29] and come out--those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned. [30] By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.

The conflict over “mat-carrying” on the Sabbath had opened a door for Jesus to share a good bit about Himself but this was more than a theology lesson. Who Jesus was and is has a profound significance personally on each of us. Jesus also shared the truth regarding the future. This is not a peripheral issue. This is the central truth of all creation! When Jesus says “I tell you the truth”, He is saying “Listen up!” “Don’t miss this!”
Here it is. Are you ready?
Hearing and believing Jesus is the way from death to life.
This is it. Don’t miss it! Hearing the truth of Jesus and coming to faith in Him as a result is the most significant concern of any person. Jesus is not one among many purveyors of wisdom. He is not one of several adequate religious options. Jesus is the way to cross over from death to life starting right now! Not later. Now!
There is more. This Good News will culminate in a day of resurrection in which those whose bodies have died will rise to be judged. As many have suspected, the soul indeed is eternal and will be judged. Jesus, the Son of Man, will carry out this judgment as assigned by the Father. Those who have crossed over into Life will not be condemned. All have sinned and done evil in the sight of God but those who have heard and trusted in Christ will rise to life. We can be assured this judgment is just and is pleasing to God.
Really makes you want to listen and believe. But even more it makes me want to be sure I am living Life right now! Sometimes the world tricks us into living like we are still in death, as if we never crossed over into Life. This is a terrible lie. Hear the Good News! Hear His voice. Hear His Truth and trust in Him. Live!

Lord, I have heard the Truth of the coming of Your Son. Thank You for calling me to cross over from death into Life. Forgive me of my sin as I trust in You. May I see Your Life in me and all around me today. In Jesus’ Name.
