Romans 15
[8] For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the Jews on behalf of God's truth, to confirm the promises made to the patriarchs [9] so that the Gentiles may glorify God for his mercy, as it is written:
"Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles; I will sing hymns to your name." [10] Again, it says, "Rejoice, O Gentiles, with his people." [11] And again, "Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles, and sing praises to him, all you peoples." [12] And again, Isaiah says, "The Root of Jesse will spring up, one who will arise to rule over the nations; the Gentiles will hope in him."

Acceptance sounds nice as long as it is abstract. But Paul sees a very specific need. It is the relationship between Jews and Gentiles. Acceptance between Jews and Gentiles has been difficult over the centuries. It was difficult in the early church as God sought to meld together believers in the Messiah of God. They were from both Jewish and Gentile backgrounds. It is difficult today, and, unfortunately, we have not done well at it over the years. Paul will not let us get away with that.
"For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the Jews on behalf of God's truth, to confirm the promises made to the patriarchs so that the Gentiles may glorify God for his mercy, as it is written."
The goal of choosing Israel was not just to reach Israel but to reach the Gentile world. Jew and Gentile are inextricably tied together in the providence and mission of God. Without the Jew, the Gentile has no promise. Without the Gentile, the Jew has no mission. Paul quotes chapter and verse.
"Therefore, I will praise you among the Gentiles; I will sing hymns to your name." "Rejoice, O Gentiles, with his people." "Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles, and sing praises to him, all you peoples." "The Root of Jesse will spring up, one who will arise to rule over the nations; the Gentiles will hope in him."
As a Gentile, is there a Jewish person in your life who needs your acceptance? Or perhaps you are of Jewish heritage. Is there a Gentile that God wants you to reach out to? God has such a powerful plan of grace in mind, and it begins with you and me.

Lord, show me how to walk out acceptance and unconditional love between Jew and Gentile. In Jesus' name.
