Overflow of Praise

Overflow of Praise

Ephesians 5
[19b]  Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, [20] always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

What is the foundation of the Christian life?  The bedrock of who He is building us to be is found in the imitation of God, not His attributes, but rather His character qualities.
We are called to get rid of the darkness in our lives.  Why?  Because He is light, and in Him, there is no darkness at all.  We are to learn to carefully use our time.  Why?  Because God has entrusted all of the time we have for His purpose and glory.  We are to search for the will of God.  Why?  That is the only place where we will find peace.  We are to seek the filling of the Spirit. Why?  Because His Spirit in us is our only hope and our only strength, and by His Spirit, we walk with Jesus.  We are to build strong friendships in Christ.  Why?  Because only in those bonds of fellowship will we discover the place of honest sharpening and growth amid gracious words and thoughts.
The culmination of all these aspects of our walk is worship.  We are called to sing and make music in our hearts to the Lord.  There is an overflow of joy that naturally comes at the culmination of all this.  We find ourselves with an attitude of gratitude that is always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
You see, that is the chief end of man-- to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.  That is not just part of a creedal statement.  It is the culmination of the basic foundation that God desires to build into every one of His children.  This is the consistent witness of Scripture.
All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, O Lord; they will bring glory to your name - Psalm 86:9.   Then will all your people be righteous, and they will possess the land forever. They are the shoot I have planted, the work of my hands, for the display of my splendor - Isaiah 60:21.  For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen - Romans 11:36.   You were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your body - 1 Corinthians 6:20. So, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God - 1 Corinthians 10:31.  You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being - Revelation 4:11.
Amazingly, this is the very foundation of a strong marriage and family.  That is what is next.

Lord God, lay the bedrock of Your character into the foundation of my life.  Build-in me the passionate desire to glorify you and gentle longing to enjoy You all the days I am given and forever.  In Jesus' Name.
