1 Peter 2

[9] But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. [10] Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

Sometimes it is a good idea to look back and see just how different we are in Christ.  Observing the contrasts can be helpful.  Just what is the difference between your old life and your new life in Christ?  Your life as a believer and as an unbeliever?

Peter made a bold declaration here.  He had just made it clear in the previous verses that those who do not know the Lord stumble headlong upon the rock of Jesus, but not you.  You believe in Him and trust in His name.

You are chosen‑‑ there is no mistake about God's call upon your life.  You are royal‑‑ adopted by the King of Kings.  You are a priesthood‑‑ you need no other person to represent you to God or God to you.  You are holy‑‑ set apart and made clean for the use and service of God.

You belong to God. You need no other group for a sense of belonging. You have purpose. You declare the praise of Him who called you out of darkness into light.  Everything that you do and say is an offering of praise to His mercy and majesty.

True.  There was a time that you were not part of a community.  You were isolated and alone.  But now you are the people of God.  Once you were without the mercy of God. You had no mercy from God for yourself or for others, but now you have received mercy.  What a great way to start your day.  What a magnificent declaration.

Lord, thank You for choosing to redeem me.  Thank You for calling me out of darkness and into the light. May everything that I do and say today be an offering of praise that declares Your mercy.  In the name of Jesus.  Amen.
