2 Timothy 3
[14] But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, [15] and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. [16] All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness [17] so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Christian life and ministry are not about doing the newest thing. It is not about following the latest fad. It is not about riding the trending styles. It is actually about continuing. It is about keeping on with the things I learned initially. Paul spoke with clarity that Timothy was to keep on with what he had learned. He was to keep walking out what he had become convinced of.
Paul knew there is a tendency for a believer, minister, or leader to be looking for that new trend when they really need to walk out what God has already revealed and called them to. Faithfulness is not found in the latest style. It is discovered in walking out what was first given. We continue to learn, but most of what we need is provided initially.
The Apostle had known Timothy for a very long time. He knew about the origins of Timothy's faith and how he came to know the Lord through his mother and grandmother. Paul knew that Timothy had been nurtured by the Holy Scriptures from infancy. Timothy had learned the Word and gained wisdom in the application of the Word. He knew the power of salvation through hearing God's Word. This was His foundation, and he should not vary from it.
It was here that Paul shared one of the great foundational Bible truths: All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
This was the foundation that Timothy was called to stand upon but also to "keep on" in. Continue in this! Walk in this! Do not vary from this! The trends may come. Issues may be raised. Concerns may be shared. But do not vary from this.
We live in an age where many are not keeping on with what they first learned. It is easier to just give in to the way of the world or the winds of the age. The culture around us seems appealing, and we want to be accepted by society.
This age is one in which people are lovers of themselves. People are interested in money. Folks are boastful, proud, and abusive. The culture is ungrateful and unholy, without love and unforgiving. Even religious folks often have only a form of godliness while denying its power. People are lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. There is a temptation to fall into that same pattern.
But we are called instead to be uncompromising in our trust in the authority of that which God has breathed. His Scripture, His Word, is our foundation.

Father God, keep me close to Your Word. Keep me walking with You and very close to Your breath upon my spirit. Keep me keeping on. . In Jesus' Name, Amen.
