Exodus 4
[10] Moses said to the Lord, "O Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue."
[11] The Lord said to him, "Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the Lord? [12] Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say."

Moses was 80 years old when God made contact calling him to the biggest job of his life. He objected no less than five times before relenting in obedience. Moses' first objection was, "Who am I, to do this great task?" The second was, "What if they ask who You are?" The third objection was, "What if they don't believe me?" Now came the fourth.
I am inadequate. I am not a good speaker. Words don't come quickly for me as they do for others.
Who would have thought? The greatest prophet of the Bible can hardly put a sentence together? How did God miss this? Didn't He check out this choice with the Human Resources Department? Actually, He did. God IS the "Human Resources" department. The Lord knew Moses before he was born. Knit him together in his mother's womb. Watched over him day by day and prepared him for this moment. God knew precisely what He was doing. So how did God make such a mistake?
The answer from the Lord is critical to understand. This is not a mistake. This is not about you Moses. This is about me. Of course, you are inadequate. I am not. I gave you your mouth. I gave you your ears and eyes. I know everything about you. I am the Lord. I will give you the words.
We sometimes miss the fact that God does not just work "in spite of" our inadequacies. He has planned and works THROUGH our perceived inadequacies. The Lord did not "settle" for Moses because HR did not send anyone better. The Lord designed Moses for this very moment. It is by design that God works through our inadequacy and weakness.
The Apostle Paul expressed it well— "But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me" (2 Cor. 12:9).
Are you facing a call from God to do something quite beyond your ability? Did you know that this is precisely the way God works? God does not call the equipped; He equips those He calls. Are you searching for the right words? Scared of opening your mouth and nothing coming out? Are you certain you are inadequate for the task that is ahead? That is a pretty sure sign that you have heard God correctly. Why would God call you to do something you can handle without Him?

Lord, I am not just inadequate to some of your call. I am inadequate to all of your call. But You, O Lord, are sufficient for all my needs. Your power is made perfect in my weakness. So I will rejoice in my weakness. Be glorified in me, O Lord. In Jesus' name.
