Exodus 6
[14] These were the heads of their families:
The sons of Reuben the firstborn son of Israel were Hanoch and Pallu, Hezron and Carmi. These were the clans of Reuben.
[15] The sons of Simeon were Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman. These were the clans of Simeon.
[16] These were the names of the sons of Levi according to their records: Gershon, Kohath and Merari. Levi lived 137 years.
[17] The sons of Gershon, by clans, were Libni and Shimei.
[18] The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. Kohath lived 133 years.
[19] The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi.
These were the clans of Levi according to their records.
[20] Amram married his father's sister Jochebed, who bore him Aaron and Moses. Amram lived 137 years.
[21] The sons of Izhar were Korah, Nepheg, and Zikri.
[22] The sons of Uzziel were Mishael, Elzaphan, and Sithri.
[23] Aaron married Elisheba, daughter of Amminadab and sister of Nahshon, and she bore him Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.
[24] The sons of Korah were Assir, Elkanah and Abiasaph. These were the Korahite clans.
[25] Eleazar son of Aaron married one of the daughters of Putiel, and she bore him Phinehas.
These were the heads of the Levite families, clan by clan.
[26] It was this same Aaron and Moses to whom the Lord said, "Bring the Israelites out of Egypt by their divisions."

It seems that people either love genealogy or hate it. For some, it is good bedtime material, meaning it will put you to sleep. Apparently, God loves it. So, He is careful to stop at this point and list the families of Israel again. God was insistent that the genealogies be recorded.
God wants us to know who we read about and who His children are. God feels the same way about you and me. He wants us to be the sons of God through faith in Christ. So these lists also tell us who we are and where we came from.
The genealogy here identifies Moses and Aaron more precisely because of their prominent position as representatives of the people before the Egyptian state. These were the first "Heads of State" in the negotiation of the Promised Land. How do Aaron and Moses fit the bigger picture of God's family?
We experience something similar when there are events in the news related to the British Royal Family. Within a few days, we suddenly learn more about the genealogy of the House of Windsor than we ever thought we might want to know. Who are this prince and that princess? Who is going to be king and why? Who is next in line? That sort of thing is suddenly important.
Moses and Aaron are the heads of state. They are going to go before Pharaoh. We need to know about them and where they are rooted.
We notice a few things here. Aaron's family is traced to his sons and his grandson Phinehas (Ex. 6:23, 25). Moses' marriage is not mentioned. This may be because his wife Zipporah was not a Hebrew. Aaron is also mentioned before Moses because Aaron was older (7:7). But in 6:27 Moses' name precedes Aaron's because the significant responsibility of the Exodus was his.
We are getting the picture. Something big is about to happen. A big announcement is about to occur.

Lord God, help me to see Your hand at work. Even when things seem to be very bad, give me faith to see that You have not left me. You have not abandoned Your people. You are just getting ready for something that only You can do. In Jesus' Name.
