Revelation 1

[5b] To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, [6]  and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father--to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.

The focus of Revelation is to glorify God in all things. Verses 5-6 contains a doxology or a burst of praise. We find doxologies throughout the Bible. But this doxology contains some Revelation about us!

Listen to what this doxology declares about us as believers and Christ-followers:  We are loved – because of Him who loves us. We are free – because of Him, who freed us from our sins by His blood. We are kingdom people – because of Him who made us a kingdom. We are priests – because of Him who made us priests to God the Father. None of this is by our work or accomplishment. He has made us loved, freed, kingdom people, who are priests.

The love of God toward us in Christ is not just a short “Love ya’” at the end of a text message or a visit. The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness” (Jeremiah 31:3).

The freedom that God has given us is not simply political or social. “He has freed us from the power of sin and death by His blood. Sin no longer has power over us.

“If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin-- because anyone who has died has been freed from sin” (Romans 6:5-7).

By this work, He has made us into a kingdom of priests. Peter put it this way—“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light” (1 Peter 2:9). “You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 2:5).

We have been set free to serve as ambassadors of the Gospel and to be the building blocks of His Kingdom. What higher calling could there be?

Lord, magnify Your Name. I lift my heart to the One who has loved me and free me. Thank You for covering my sins by Your precious blood. Thank You for making me a part of Your holy priesthood of believers. In Jesus’ Name.
