Exodus 6
Then the Lord said to Moses, "Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh: Because of my mighty hand he will let them go; because of my mighty hand he will drive them out of his country."
[2] God also said to Moses, "I am the Lord. [3] I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name the Lord I did not make myself known to them. [4] I also established my covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, where they lived as aliens. [5] Moreover, I have heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are enslaving, and I have remembered my covenant.
[6] "Therefore, say to the Israelites: 'I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. [7] I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. [8] And I will bring you to the land I swore with uplifted hand to give to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob. I will give it to you as a possession. I am the Lord.' "
[9] Moses reported this to the Israelites, but they did not listen to him because of their discouragement and cruel bondage.
[10] Then the Lord said to Moses, [11] "Go, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the Israelites go out of his country."
[12] But Moses said to the Lord, "If the Israelites will not listen to me, why would Pharaoh listen to me, since I speak with faltering lips?"
[13] Now the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron about the Israelites and Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he commanded them to bring the Israelites out of Egypt.

The liberation plan had bogged down, and Pharaoh was meaner than ever. Perhaps things got worse for the Israelites so that the "Mighty Hand" of the Lord might be seen. Jesus said about the man born blind in John 9 that this happened to glorify God. A quick solution or an anonymous intervention was not the order of the day. God was going to do something bold and apparent that would clearly bring glory to Him.
The Lord reminded Moses that He had a covenant relationship with the people of Israel. The Lord God had appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and now had revealed His Name to Moses. With this revelation came the Lord's declaration of intention to redeem and free the Israelites. He had placed His Name upon His people.
But the people were reluctant. They were beaten down and discouraged. The cruelty of Pharaoh had gotten worse, and they did not want to take a chance on things getting more difficult. Even Moses was cowering. "If the Israelites will not listen to me, why would Pharaoh listen to me since I speak with faltering lips?"
Then, the order came. "Now the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron about the Israelites and Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he commanded them to bring the Israelites out of Egypt." The Lord made it clear that the liberation of the Israelites was not optional. This was not a request. This was not a debate. The merits of Egypt vs. Canaan were not the topic of discussion. He commanded Moses and Aaron to bring the Israelites out of Egypt. Failure was not an option.
We sometimes forget who is in charge and how wonderful and powerful He really is. Failure is not an option when the Lord calls us to a task. Things may get more complicated before they improve, but He will achieve His intended goal. His call is not a request; it is a command. It is an announcement of what He is doing by His Mighty Hand. In fact, many parts of the Bible speak of certain battles in the past tense as if they have already been accomplished because they have! In the Lord's view, which is eternal, they have already been completed.
Maybe we should think about life more in that way. The call of the Lord is not to some speculative possibility. The Lord is not pitching an idea or proposal to us. He is announcing what He has already accomplished in eternity by His Mighty Hand and commanding our participation. The Lord has remarkable plans for you! They are not pipe dreams or sketchy possibilities. They are wonderful works of liberation by His Mighty Hand, even if not on the grand scale of the Exodus. He is accomplishing results more wonderful than we can imagine. Failure is not an option. He commands that we be a part.

Father God, I am listening. Give me faith and courage to respond to the announcement of Your Mighty works. In Jesus' name.
