Romans 5
[15] But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God's grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! [16] Again, the gift of God is not like the result of the one man's sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. [17] For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.

Death came through one man-- Adam.  Life came through the one man-- Jesus.  It is the same, but different. Death came because of one trespass. Life came after many trespasses but because of one death.
It is powerful to realize that death came through one man's disobedience, but even more remarkable to realize that life also came through one man's obedience. Death reigned through one man, but life also came to reign through one man to those who receive.
So, the grace of God overflows to many. Like a river that overflows its banks, so the grace of God overflows the limits that we imagine to as many as receive. That is the bottom line.
Death came to all humanity whether they "received" death or not.  Life comes through Jesus but only if we receive the gift.  We are not forced to live.  Life is not a mandate.  Life is something we receive, the abundant provision of grace and the gift of righteousness.
Could there be any more precious gift? Any decision more important?

Lord, I give thanks that You set out to reverse the reign of death.  I receive the abundant provision of grace and the gift of righteousness.  Amen.
