Hebrews 6
[13] When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself, [14] saying, "I will surely bless you and give you many descendants." [15] And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.
[16] Men swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument. [17] Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. [18] God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged. [19] We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, [20] where Jesus, who went before us, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.
There is a time to sail free and a time to drop anchor. When you want to be sure you do not drift, positive that you will awaken in the right place, assured that you have remained in safe harbor drop anchor.
We have this anchor for the soul, firm and secure, says the Writer. God has made an oath by his own name, "I will surely bless you and give you many descendants. "An oath confirmed after the patience of Abraham as he received the promise. In this, we are greatly encouraged.
What is this anchor? Hope. When things look bleak, remember that God has not forgotten His people. When times are tough, remember God's promises to His people. When you are tempted to give up, recall God's faithfulness to keep His promises. Hope enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain. Hope shines bright in the holy of holies where Jesus has entered as our High Priest.
Have you been discouraged? God cannot lie. He has made a great promise to the Children of Abraham. In Christ, we are His descendants, grafted in. We claim hope that springs eternal because we, too, stand upon the promise of God. Allow the anchor of hope to keep you from drifting.
Lord, I claim the promise you made to Abraham. I claim the anchor of hope for my soul. I claim the hope that enters into the holy place. May I not drift as I rest in You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
