2 Corinthians 9
[8] And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

          Paul encouraged generous, sincere, spontaneous, joyful giving. This is the way of grace. This is the response to grace. God is able to do all this in you. He makes His grace abound in you so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

         Ultimately, Christians can dispense only what they have received, whether material or spiritual. The good work is done through God's enabling and is an expression of His grace. Regardless of how desperate one's circumstances are, a person who wants to give can do so in dependence on God.

         Paul gave witness to this truth in His letter to the believers at Philippi: "I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength" (4:11-13).

         By contrast, man's inability, as part of the New Covenant, simply showcases God's work. This verse is full of words indicating the magnificence of God's enabling: all grace... in all things at all times, having all that you need... in every good work. In the words "all things," "all times," and "all... you need," the Greek heaps three words one after the other to declare that God is indeed sufficient! His "every" grace abounds so that believers can abound "in every good work".

        God wants His grace to abound in you today. Will you open yourself to that possibility? Will you receive that which you can never earn or pay for, so that you may freely give that which can never be measured? 

        Father God, teach me the way of generosity. Teach me the pattern of receiving freely and giving freely. May Your grace abound in me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
