John 1
[6] There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. [7] He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. [8] He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. [9] The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.

Big things don’t happen without an announcement. Important voices don’t speak without introduction.
For many years, Jay Leno did not step on stage without a lot of warning from the band and then the voice of Edd Hall. Johnny Carson did not start his monologue without the iconic announcement by Ed McMahon. The President of the United States does not officially enter the Halls of Congress without an announcement by the House Sergeant at Arms followed by the Presidential Anthem, “Hail to the Chief”. If such little things as these require announcement, how much more the coming of the Christ of God?
The announcer of Jesus was not as polished as Ed McMahon. He wore camel skin and ate bugs. He did not have a band like Jay Leno, but he got the point across. John came as the last of the prophets of Israel after 400 years of prophetic silence to make a simple announcement. “The Light of God is here and I am not Him.”
It is very important in this world of confusion that we not mistake the announcer for the keynote. We must not think that the band is the message. Don’t mistake Edd for Jay or the Sergeant at Arms for the President.
It might sound like a simple message but we miss it a lot. We often admire the Lord’s announcers almost as if they were the Lord. We sometimes mistake God’s work as that of His servants.
Someone recently asked me if a person with the gift of healing could go around and heal people. We easily get confused in that way. People may have gifts of intercession and insight but they only announce to you the healer, the Great Physician. It is a bit like attributing a successful surgery to a hospital orderly simply because they were the person who wheeled you into the operating room. In the world of healing even the surgeons are orderlies. God is the healer.
We are never more than the announcer but we also are never anything less!
Announcers like John have an important function, to faithfully point to the Lord. We, like John, are called to be a witness to the Life-Light of Jesus! We are also called to reflect His Light and point people who are in the darkness toward that Light! What a joy it is to be His announcer.
How will you announce Him today? It need not be with great fanfare. You don’t really need a band. You just need to be ready because the occasion will occur when you will have the chance to point to Jesus and announce Him.

Lord, I am excited. I am excited to see what You have in mind today. Show me where You want me to announce You and how You would like me to introduce You. In Jesus’ name.
